MARAS SALT MINE

CUSCO

Maras is a small town in the middle of one of the roads that connect Cusco with Sacred Valley, for that reason it has turned into one of the most frequent destinations in Cusco for MTB.
You can do it with any agency, there are lot of them but be careful, there are many that offer cheap service, around 40-50 USD, but that means bad service, bad bikes.
A choice for those who have more time is to stay at the village at Amilcar´s House and spend a quite night in a location not full of tourists. Otherwise you can stay also at Misminay community, a near village with an amazing view of the valley.

THE RIDES

A CYCLETRIP

The ride should start at 9am from the Lake Huaypo, near Chinchero or from Maras Village. Track takes you up to Misminay village, to follow a singletrack having the view of snow capes and Moray Inca site, then, loop back to ride down to Maras Town. You may go downhill – on singletracks – to the Salt Mines, have a visit there and then ride climbing up, back to Maras village.

FUNNY DOWNHILL

Reguylarly rides begin at the Lake Huaypo, near Chinchero. If you want to climb a bit, then ride to Moray Inca site, if not ride down by the road to Maras Town. Afterwards, we will ride down – on singletracks – to the Sacred Valley, going beside the Salt Mines, continuing to the Urubamba River, where ends the ride.
