INSIDE THE CENTRAL JUNGLE

LIMA CLOSEST JUNGLE

Chanchamayo valley is the gate to enter to what we know in Peru as the Central Jungle. From La Merced and San Ramon cities it opens many options to visit. Left side are the old villages founded by German colons in 19th century like Oxapampa and Pozuzo, right side the villages founded 100 years ago like Pangoa and Satipo.

Choices

OXAPAMPA AND POZUZO

You may ride by road to Oxapampa. Climbing from Paucartambo bridge to Oxapampa for 3 to 4 hours on paved road. The key is starting before sunrise.
At Oxa you may do a loop around the village.
Pozuzo and Oxapampa are german styled villages, colons from Austria and Germany reach this hidden lands in the 19th century.
Going to down to Pozuzo will take another 4 to 5 hours if weather is good. Pozuzo deserves another day or at least a half day.

VILLA RICA AND BAYOZ

You may ride from Oxa for three hours o go straight for 3 hours too, from Paucartambo bridge. You may visit the village, El Oconal lake or some cascades.
Villa Rica is the capital of coffee founded also by the german colons in the beginning of 20th century.
A nice ride to get back to La Merced or connect to Satipo is to take the road to Alto Yurianki, across the jungle, finishing in the well known Bayoz waterfalls.

SATIPO

Satipo is the next big village in the border of the deep jungle.
You may ride a whole day by the road. Once there it opens a wide options of adventure, not only biking, but hiking and swimming on rivers and cascades.
